—Better Off

Love how the women are dominating with music.

HAIM, Better Off (from the Forever EP)

I’ve found my new music obsession and well yes I’ve only heard three songs but I’m in LOVE with HAIM.  Three lovely sisters making damn delightful as fuck music together.  Seriously you don’t want to miss out on jumping on this bandwagon right now.  I’ve posted the killer track Better Off which is sort of like this Chairlift, The Weeknd, and Class Actress cocktail.  Damn tasty if you ask me!  And if you’re craving more you can stream the 2 other stellar eargasms (Forever and Go Slow) off the Forever EP over at their Soundcloud page.  And if after that listening party you are smitten too, guess what you can download the entire Forever EP for free HERE.

Radiation City has come out with a video (sure to please) for the single Find It of Use, off their upcoming EP, out March 6th on Tender Loving Empire.  Check it out, let us know what you think, and enjoy.  IFC was gracious enough to premier the video today!

They also put on an amazing live set.  Sounds even better than the recordings:)

Pure Bathing Culture Silver Shore’s Lake

I cannot wait for Pure Bathing Culture to release some new tunes. Until they do, this track will be on repeat, like it has been…for months. The band just played a sold out show at Doug Fir in Portland with my pals Radiation City, so felt the need to revisit this jam. This duo in general, but this jam in particular reminds me of The Carpenters mixed with Kool and the Gang, which inherently reminds me of my childhood because that’s all my parents listened to when I was growing up. Images of those moving ocean clocks that would change colors come to mind. Oh nostalgia.

I have a hunch PBC is putting some tunes out on either Secretly Canadian or Fat Possum, and for reasons I can’t reveal, possibly Domino, sometime this spring. The duo are also in the San Francisco indie rock outfit Vetiver, which is on Sub Pop. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Love speculating though.

APES TAPES highly endorses this film project.  At the very least, check out the trailer.  Pretty inspiring stuff.  At the most, donate your life savings to the project.

A glimpse at what the new Radiation City video will look like.  Stay tuned.

I’m going to apply for the food critic position for the Portland Mercury.  Notoriously crass, yet hilarious with all their articles, I’m asked to write a cover letter explaining why I’m awesome.  Literally, that is what they asked.  All I can say about that is… I’m not sure why.
I know that I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, and continue to create what I think to be great, crowd pleasing food.  I’ve even contemplated opening a restaurant, soul-thai inspired (once I go to Thailand and really learn and once I make millions).  Until then, I will continue to cook for my amazing friends and have them gush to me about how great it is.  I can’t say it’s always good, but dammit I try.
Tonight, for my application, I’m going to review my friends restaurant that just opened next to Bunk Bar (where we’ll be seeing Gardens and Villa/Hosannas/Aan on the 20th), who will be serving us Korean Fried Chicken at his Ramen shoppe, Boke.  So excited for food from someone I trust and love.  Will put the review up tonight after dinner.  Stay tuned.

Get it.
